As green returns to the Tudor Place gardens, celebrate the changing season with an afternoon tea at Tudor Place. Sample a traditional Victorian service complete with tea sandwiches, scones, delicious

desserts, and historic tea blends. Afterward, join docents for guided tour through the 1816 historic mansion. (Recommended for adults, teens and mature tweens.)

Civil War Encampment

at Tudor Place!


When war divided the nation, it cleaved the capital city, too. Experience it live, mingling at Tudor Place with costumed enactors from all sides and factions - Union, Confederate, and free and enslaved civilians. In addition to the outdoor bivouac and Union artillery, take advantage of a full agenda of tours and author talks, a children's "School for Soldiers,"

and additional activities

for all ages.

"Window on Washington"

features rare items from the Tudor Place collections -- the largest public trove of Washington artifacts outside Mount Vernon -- on display in the Visitor Center and the mansion. Access to the Visitor Center is free. Those taking mansion tours will view the Dining Room table laid with the famous Tudor Place plateau and the Washingtons' Sevres porcelain, English glassware, and other entertaining accoutrements.

To commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, Tudor Place offers two unique tours covering life in wartime in the Federal City, in Georgetown, and on the estate itself, filled with fascinating personal stories of strife and family life and led by a costumed interpreter.

Scouts explore architectural styles from around the world, while touring historic homes in Georgetown. After the tour, they will  design their own buildings and landscape. The program meets all requirements for the Junior Architecture Badge and several requirements for Interest Projects in Museum Discovery, Architecture and Environmental Design.

Spring Tea and Chocolate Workshop

Enjoy a festive spring tea, complete with tempting treats, poured by a costumed interpreter with stories to tell about the how early Americans bought, prepared and served the exotic treats of tea and chocolate. See period servers and implements and follow it with the delicious project of decorating three-dimensional chocolate eggs (one per child) to take home.

Cherry Blossom Tea

Celebrate the return of  cherry blossoms to Tudor Place! This traditional tea includes tea sandwiches, scones, delicious desserts, and Japanese tea blends. After the tea join docents for a relaxing stroll through Tudor Place's beautiful 5 ½ acre gardens. (Recommended for adults, teens and mature tweens.)

Eggstravaganza!

Friday, April 6  10 am to NOON

All ages can revel in spring and Easter fun at the 3rd Annual Eggstravaganza!, D.C.'s largest egg hunt, including a thrilling Egg Roll contest.  Hop up to egg

games, egg decorating and games from the past.  Take pictures with the Easter Bunny. When the excitement's too much, stroll 5.5 acres of glorious gardens. (Garden maps available.)


Egg Hunt starts at 10:45 a.m., with Egg Roll following at 11.  Each participating child should bring a bag or basket, large spoon, and hard-boiled egg.

Civil War Encampment

10 am - 3 pm


Civil War camp tentYou are an citizen of 1860s Georgetown and the war has come to your doorstep, if only for a few hours. Walk among and talk with Union and Confederate soldiers and enslaved workers on the lawns at Tudor Place. See a Union Artillery unit and attend the School of the Soldier, where children study arms and drills, and try out period dress and games. On mansion tours, hear about the estate's history or the  roles and lives of servants and enslaved workers on the "Out of Sight" tour, offered periodically throughout the day. Also on the schedule, authors of Civil War books and other experts will cover topics including Lincoln, Harper's Ferry, Victorian dress, and the war roles of African American women.
