National Capital Area Garden Clubs
AWARDS PROGRAM
HOW IT WORKS
Awards Year: January 1 - December 31, 2011
1. Through the National Capital Area Garden Clubs, Cental Atlantic Region & National
Garden Clubs awards program, garden club members receive recognition for their outstanding
achievement.
- A Book of Evidence which is a compilation of facts and information related to a project
or a flower show is a requirement.
- Preparation is important when applying for an award.
- Review possible categories which your project might be eligible.
- Plan to fulfill requirements listed in the scale of points by which your book of
evidence will be judged.
- Take before, during and after photos.
- Plan publicity.
- Involve youth and/or the community, if possible.
- Keep a record of income and expenses.
- Strive for 100% membership participation.
- Adhere to the deadline for application.
2. The Four Levels of Opportunity to Receive Awards:
- National Capital Area’s District: I, II, III, IV.
- State: National Capital Area Garden Clubs, Inc. (NCAGC).
- Region: Central Atlantic Region (CAR).
- National: National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC).
3. Applications:
For all National Garden Clubs and Central Atlantic Region awards that have comparable
National Capital Area awards, one must apply and win the National Capital Area award
in order to be forwarded on to a higher level.
For the NGC and CAR awards not covered by National Capital Area awards, the applications
must first be sent
to the National Capital Area Awards’ Chairman to be reviewed by the National Capital
Area Awards’ Committee.
- District: Automatic with application for a National Capital Area Award.
- State: National Capital Area Garden Clubs Application for State Awards required in
duplicate.
- Region: The Central Atlantic Region Application completed by the NCAGC Awards Chairman.
- National: The National Garden Clubs, Inc. Application completed by the NCAGC Awards
Chairman.
4. National Capital Area District Awards Chairmen receive:
- All Yearbooks and Newsletters by November 4, 2011 with National Capital Area Applications.
- Citation for Outstanding Garden Club Achievement State #18 Award Forms by January
23, 2012.
5. National Capital Area Awards Chairman receives:
- All Books of Evidence with State Applications in duplicate.
- All Documentation with State Applications in duplicate.

- National Awards: Fall 2011 Directory.
- Web site: www.ncagardenclubs.org (continually updated with awards help).
- National Capital Area Awards and District Awards Chairmen.
7. Process of Selection:
- National Capital Area’s District Awards Committee members meet soon after NOVEMBER
4, 2011, to review Yearbooks and Newsletters.
- National Capital Area’s Awards Committee members meet in late November to determine
winners for the National Capital Area and to select the applications to be sent on
to Central Atlantic Region and to the National Garden Club for further consideration.
- Clubs may win a District, state (National Capital Area), Central Atlantic Region
and/or National Garden Club Award for the same project.
8. Presentation of Awards:
- District and State Meetings in March 2012 (for year 2011 applications).
- Central Atlantic Region Conference in Maryland, October 2011 (for year 2010 applications).
- National Garden Club Convention in May 2012 (for year 2011 applications).
